My Card

Cindy double-checked the bag that she had put some extra diapers in, along with a few toys and a blanket.  She was supposed to have gone to Cyrus and Georgianna’s new house for their wedding with the rest of the family, but she decided it would be best if she and the baby waited to head over until just before the ceremony.

She was on her way to the nursery when she heard a door open downstairs.  “Hello?” she called.  “Who’s there?”

“It’s just me, Cindy,” Cyrus’ voice called up the stairs.  “I hope I didn’t startle you.”

The baby forgotten for the moment, she went down the stairs and saw her brother-in-law’s head sticking up above the sofa cushions in the music room.  She went and sat beside him.  “Is something wrong?  You’re supposed to be getting married in,” she looked at the mantle clock, “less than an hour.”

“No, nothing’s wrong.  Georgeianna’s mom shooed me out, so I started walking.  And somehow, I ended up here.”

“I see.”

The two sat in silence; the only sound was the ‘tick tock’ of the pendulum of the mantle clock as it swung back and forth.

Cyrus rubbed his face with his hands.  “Gah, this is crazy.”

“What’s crazy?”

“Me, this situation, all of it.  I only asked her to marry me because I knew both our parents expected it, and I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason she said yes.”

Cindy smiled sadly at her brother-in-law.  “You’re nervous about getting married.”

“Yeah, not that you would know anything about that.  You practically ran down the aisle to marry my brother.”

Cindy couldn’t help but laugh at Cyrus’ comment.  “Oh, Cyrus, if only you had been inside my head that day.  I was practically ordering my lungs to breathe and my feet to walk.”

“Really?  You looked so happy.”

“I was happy, but I also had my doubts.”  She put her hand on his shoulder.  “You and I are a lot alike in some ways, Cyrus.  I was scared of getting married because I didn’t want to become like my mother.  She was a miserable homebody who was too chicken to try to change things.  But I also knew that I didn’t want to live my life without James in it.  That made my choice easy.”

“I don’t want to live a life without Georgie in it, either.  But I’m scared things are going to change once we go through with this.”

“Things will change once you’re married.  You can’t help it.  But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.”

They sat quietly for a few more moments, before Cyrus drew in a deep breath.  “You’re really happy being married?”

“I am.  I wouldn’t change a thing.  But if you’re not sure, you shouldn’t go through with it.  I’m sure your parents, especially your father, would understand.”

“They would.  But I can’t do that to Georgie.  I love her too much.”

“So that means we have a wedding to get to.”

“Yes, it does.  I’ll carry the kid over for you.  My absence will be forgiven more readily if it looks like I came home to help you out.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.  We’ll both go grab what we need and be off.”

As they got up to go upstairs, Cyrus pulled Cindy into a hug.  “Thanks.”

Aww, poor Cyrus.

BTW, you're evil. Pure evil just mentioning the baby as either "the kid" or "the baby." WHAT DID THEY HAVE?! A BOY OR A GIRL?! GAAHH!!

Only one Romance Sim can help another make the jump into marriage.

No, I'm not evil. I haven't played that house yet so I DON'T KNOW if it's a boy or a girl yet. Believe me, I want to know just as badly as the rest of you, but I have a bunch of house to play through before I get to theirs.

That's nice she can be there to help him out. :)

Also lol, I'm the same way, I can't play things until it's time.

It was nice. Cindy's got a lot of mothering instincts in her, even if she doesn't realize it.

I also need to figure a few things out before I can play the houses I need to film in before the next chapter. Hopefully soon. I want to know if I have my heir or not!

Lots of Romance Sims this gen! Makes sense, though, with the way you've described the 20s, that a lot of them don't really want to get married but are doing it because their parents want it. I do wonder how that will work with hippies in the future. :P

Yes, lots of Romance sims, but it does fit the period. Not sure what will happen with the 60s, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

This is sweet. A nice moment. Someone mentioned how pleasant this generations comraderie is and I must second that. Such a relief to see a bickering yet solid family unit again in the Bradford household.

Thanks. It's really nice to be able to write the family getting along for once. They bicker, yes (what family doesn't?), but they like each other a lot.
